From October 2026, hiring a boat requires a qualification

The Royal Decree requires anybody hiring a motor boat to hold a boating qualification. It is not paperwork for the company: it is the customer's. No qualification, no hire.

The Licencia de Navegación — the Spanish basic boating licence — is the short way to comply: a one-day course, no exam, and it covers exactly the part of the fleet that gets hired most.

    Theory

    Safety, buoyage, weather and the rules you actually use two miles out. In person, on board the training boat.

  2. 4 h

    Practical on board

    Manoeuvring, helming and anchoring, with a skipper holding a professional qualification (PPER) — which is what the rules require to teach them.

  3. The same day

    Licence

    The school certifies the training and issues the licence on its own responsibility. No exam, no exam dates, no waiting.

We are going through the school's authorisation, so today there are no places, no course dates and no final price. Opening is expected soon. Leave us an email and you will be among the first to know when there is a date — nothing else.

The usual questions

Is there an exam?

No. The school certifies the training and issues the licence on its own responsibility, so there are no exam dates and no issuing fee.

Does it expire?

It doesn't expire. You get it once.

What can I skipper with it?

Motor boats up to 6 metres in length, up to 2 nautical miles from the coast and in daylight only. Above that length you need the PER.

From what age?

From 18. At 16 and 17 too, with consent from a parent or guardian.

Do I need a medical certificate?

Yes: a medical fitness check at a driver medical centre, the same kind of centre where you renew a driving licence. It is valid for 2 years, the student pays for it and the school does not arrange it.

Can I book a place yet?

Not yet. There are no course dates and no places open: we are going through the authorisation process and we open soon. Leave us your email and we'll tell you as soon as there is a date.
